Zuperia Auto Fast-Tracks Growth in Cargo and Garbage EV Segments Amid India’s Commercial EV Surge

New Delhi, 28th April 2025 — As India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape undergoes a transformative shift towards utility-driven applications, Zuperia Auto Private Limited, formerly known as Lohia Auto Industries, is strategically positioning itself to capitalize on the surging demand for electric cargo and garbage collection vehicles. The company’s recent restructuring, introducing the ‘Youdha’ brand alongside its legacy ‘Lohia’ brand, aims to cater to the mass-market institutional space and premium clientele, respectively.

India’s commercial EV segment, particularly electric three-wheelers (e3Ws), has witnessed remarkable growth. In 2024, e3W sales reached approximately 694,466 units, marking an 18% year-over-year increase. Notably, the cargo sub-segment experienced a significant surge, with a 45% year-over-year growth, driven by the booming e-commerce sector and the need for efficient last-mile delivery solutions.

Zuperia Auto’s strategic initiatives align with this market trajectory. The company’s successful deployment of electric garbage collection vehicles in cities such as Delhi – NCR, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh its capability to provide comprehensive solutions for municipal waste management. Building on this success, Zuperia has secured an order to supply 40 electric garbage collection vehicles to the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) for operations in the Bawana Industrial Area.

“The real opportunity in the EV space lies beyond the personal mobility segment,” said Ayush Lohia, CEO of Zuperia Auto Pvt. Ltd. “With increasing restrictions on diesel-run vehicles in cities and growing pressure on municipalities to adopt clean mobility solutions, the cargo and garbage vehicle segments are emerging as key focus areas.”

To meet the escalating demand, Zuperia is expanding its production capacity at its Kashipur facility and is in advanced stages of launching a new line of electric loaders and cargo vehicles under the Youdha brand. These vehicles are designed to address the operational needs of last-mile logistics, retail deliveries, and waste collection—segments expected to grow exponentially in both metropolitan and smaller cities.

The company’s strategic focus is further supported by favourable government policies and incentives promoting EV adoption, as well as the economic advantages of electric three-wheelers, such as lower operational costs and reduced emissions. As per F.Y. 25 for cargo and utility EVs is approximately 93K units, with projections to exceed 1.5 lakhs units in the next 4-5 years.

“Our institutional sales pipeline has never looked stronger,” Lohia noted. “Zuperia Auto is uniquely positioned with in-house R&D, dedicated manufacturing, and the ability to customize vehicles for institutional needs.
